An Open Letter to Women

November 06, 2002

Dear Sisters,

Today a woman in my town was killed in a domestic violence attack by her husband. She reported to the police many times but would never leave her attacker. Now, she is dead, her children motherless, her family devastated.

LOVE IS NOT ABUSE IN ANY FORM.

The Women's Empowerment Workshop (Are You Safe) that I recently participated in made a huge impact on my life. I have learned numerous skills to force someone to release me because I am not a willing participant.

NO LONGER WILL ANY PERSON USE MY LIFE FOR THEIR SICK SELF-GRATIFICATION.

Having been a victim of rape (2 times never reported) and domestic violence (4 times, 1 reported and 1 sent to prison) and child sexual abuse (never reported), I have the desire to tell you how the cycle can and will be stopped by knowing EXACTLY what to do when and if it happens again.

Have you ever been too afraid to leave your situation for fear of the next beating? Have you been afraid for your family's safety? Ever been in "Fear of your Life?" Had your partner, family member, or friend, threaten and/or hurt you? Is his drinking problem now your problem? Don't know the boundaries of when he may attack you again? Your children; if you are dead…he is in prison…. What happens to your children? And all the while you were trying to protect them or yourself. Still saying…BUT I love him?

REMEMBER, NO ONE EVER DIED OF A BROKEN HEART.

You are a brave woman… You are brave because you are still alive. The only problem is that you are terrified of what may happen next.

If I told you that you could have terror eliminated by working through maneuvers and scenarios that would save your life AND it would only take up 4 hours of your time.  WOULD YOU invest the time???

Please go to the website http://areusafe.tripod.com, read and ponder what the next step to saving your life may be. You can e-mail Mr. Tompkins at: are_u_safe@yahoo.com for any information, or to set a time for your training.

Sincerely,

Joni K. Behrens
