The Poetry of Joni Kaye Behrens
Indian Maiden
Hundreds of years ago This Indian maiden Survived cold, hard winters Storms, wind and rain Shielded by protective branches Stable, and strong Enveloping her- She still lives in the forest Filled with all her glory.. The trees from long ago Stand tired but strong The laughter still fills the air The aroma of woodsmoke Stands aloof.. She is there, waiting to tell me The secrets of her life Amidst the warmth of the trees This single Indian maiden.
